14 Perfect Pink and Red Polishes for Valentine's Day

Hello lovely Valentines! It's that time of year where everything is swathed in pinks and reds and twitterpation is in the air. Well, maybe not for everyone, but romantic love isn't the only reason to celebrate Valentine's Day. I've always found it a fun holiday to show my affection to friends and family, and hopefully receive some in return.

Sweetheart And Ruffian Valentine Nails

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I really wanted to squeeze in one more nail art look for the holiday. Who knows, I may even do some more next week, haha. Last night I made the rookie mistake of running out of acetone. Because it was so late I had to go to two stores to find pure acetone. And naturally because the nail polish was in the vicinity I had to buy a bottle or two of pretties. I found this pretty soft pink and when I brought it home I wanted to use it right away. This A England polish was one of my untrieds and it's been sitting on my desk waiting for an excuse to be used. The two found their way to each other and this is what I ended up with.

Pink Skittlette With UberChic

Great news guys! I have a new computer! A friend of ours built it for us, wasn't that so nice? Thanks dude (he's never going to read this)! Only thing is, I still need Photoshop installed, and an auxiliary camera card reader. So for now I will be showing you another post I've had saved up in my draft file. Why haven't I published it yet? Good question, I don't really know why. You can tell how long I've been hanging on to this though by looking at how GREEN the grass is in the background. All of my outside photos have white backgrounds now, haha.

ALIQUID Lacquer Cherry Festival Nail Art

Bonjour, mon cherries!

Last month Alison from ALIQUID did a guest post for me featuring three polishes from her new Two Pleasant Peninsulas collection. I naturally had to checkout the rest of the collection. There were so many that I liked! I especially fancied I'm Heading Strait to Mackinac and Cherry Festival, so I snatched them up. With a name like "Cherry Festival" I just had to do some nail art with a cherry print.

Clinique Spring 2014 BONUS at Dillard's Nail Polish Swatches

Really Rio and Hi Sweetie

*Disclaimer: I am employed by Clinique, but these are my own opinions. All product was purchased by me.*

It's Clinique Bonus time at Dillard's (for another week, or until supplies last) and because it includes nail polish, two choices even, I had to get both options! Of course, since the polish is a mini size, it's only worth qualifying for the gift if you actually are going to use the products you're buying. Since my skincare is almost exclusively Clinique, it's usually worth it for me.

Clinique A Different Nail Enamel For Sensitive Skins polishes were released June 2013. I am so glad Clinique finally came out with a quality polish! The formula they had a few years ago was in my opinion, low quality. The new formula has many benefits. They have been specially formulated and allergy tested to be gentle and non-irritating to the skin and eyes. Most important to me is how opaque most of them are even in one coat. All the ones I've tried have a lot of shine to them too. So now for the swatches!

Hi Sweetie is a hot pink creme. This is two coats, plus top coat.

Really Rio is a muted coral creme. This is two coats, plus top coat.

Bonus also includes-

  • cosmetics bag
  • Take The Day Off eye makeup remover- really good for waterproof eye and lip makeup. For all skin types.
  • Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + - the famous yellow lotion got an upgrade last year, now with 50% more hydration (hence the "+"). For dry to dry/combination skins
  • Lash Doubling mascara- black, thickening mascara, that has a tapered brush
  • A Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace (shown below) or Sugared Grapefruit- a lipstick that's more sheer than creamy. Both shades have a gold shimmer in them. Full size.
  • Even Better Makeup SPF 15 foundation- For all skin types, though not recommended for very oily skin. Provides moderate coverage with a natural finish. There are four shade options for the gift, Ivory, Neutral, Beige, and Amber. (I am very fair, so there wasn't a matching shade available for the gift. This is actually the foundation formula I use, but I wear the lightest shade, Linen.)
  • A Different Nail Enamel For Sensitive Skin and Eyes in Hi Sweetie or Really Rio- Both are permanent shades. .14 oz/4 ml

Raspberry Glace and Sugared Grapefruit

If this Bonus is a must have for you, make sure to get it while it's still available. Let me know if you have any questions about this post. Tell me if you want to see more like it in the future. I hope you enjoyed it!

I Heart Valentine's Day

Reasons I love Valentine's Day:
  1. chocolate
  2. flowers
  3. spa gift certificates
  4. more chocolate
  5. cards in the mail
Valentine's Day is not at the top of my list of favorite holiday's, but it has its own merits. This year has been extra fun because my kids have been so excited for it these last couple of weeks. It's not like I built it up by telling them that it's cool or even that they get anything. All they knew is that it's a day that has a special name, and that was good enough for them!

For the manicure I started off with two coats of OPI At First Sight. I've used this polish previously for my Happy 10th (Wedding) Anniversary mani. Apparently I associate it with romance or something. Then with a sponge I painted on a gradient of At First Sight, OPI Princesses Rule, and Sephora by OPI Casting Call, and dabbed it on my nails. I repeated the process a few times until I got the desired amount of color.

To create the hearts I used Casting Call again, and also It's So Easy Stripe Rite polish. These polishes don't have color names, but it looks like a dark fuschia.

Here's a fun fact about me: My first boyfriend and I broke up the day before Valentine's Day. True story. I had these friends that were a really cute couple, and I showed up at school and they were being all ewy-gooey with each other. I totally cried. Boo-hoo. That year Valentine's was really sad for me, but I usually see it as a good excuse to make cute cards for people and show them that I care. At least when I've remembered to...

What I used:
OPI At First Sight
OPI Princesses Rule!
Sephora by OPI Casting Call
It's So Easy Stripe Rite in fuschia color
Seche Vite Top Coat

Here's to wishing everyone gets a little love today! Better yet, I hope you've shared some. Either way, I'm sending out my lovey vibes to you. :) XOXO

Pink Gradient and Holo Glitter Ruffian

I did this manicure back in October. I've been on the fence about whether or not I wanted to post it. I loooved wearing these nails. They were so girly! I am a sucker for gradients, and the glitter was so pretty to stare at. So I was disappointed that my photos didn't come out as well as it looked in person. I am finally just going to post it because no one but me even knows the difference!

I did the same gradient as the one in my Save the Ta Tas mani. I sponged the three polishes on each nail. Then I applied top coat to smooth it all out. For the ruffian look, I applied the glitter on the nail leaving a little gap between the cuticle, and bottom half of the sides. It was finished off with another application of top coat.

What I used:
Sephora by OPI What Aura Gonna Wear?- deep hot pink
Clinique Pinkini- bubble gum pink
Jenna Hipp Damage Control- pastel pink
Sephora by OPI Meet Me at the Disco- holo glitter
Seche Vite top coat

Are you into girly manicures? I'm not a super girly-girl, but pink does usually look good on me.

Breast Cancer Awareness Nails: Save the Ta Tas

I didn't initially have plans to do a Breast Cancer Awareness mani this month. It was when I was browsing Try My Hand's BCAM post, featuring half moons and french tips, that my genius idea struck. Then I couldn't wait to do this post, and I am endlessly amused by it.

See what I did here? PLEASE tell me you see what I did here. LOL.

I "enhanced" the half moons to be a little bigger than usual by reshaping a couple of paper reinforcements. First I applied a couple coats of nude polish and topped it with Seche Vite. When it was completely dry I used the paper reinforcements to mask off above my cuticles and painted the pink above it. Then I finished with another coat of SV.

I painted the ribbon on in like, two seconds. I wanted to do some fancy water marbling on a couple of my fingers, but finally gave up after an hour's worth (or more) of failed attempts. I finally settled on a sponge gradient on my thumb. Then as quick as I could, I painted a reverse gradient ribbon so I could finally be done!  I know this doesn't look like it took much time to do, but I tried a ton of stuff to finally end up with this. I'm so glad this is what I ended up with because I love it!

What I used:
paper reinforcements
Barry M Lychee- nude
Sephora by OPI What Aura Gonna Wear?- deep hot pink
Clinique Pinkini- bubble gum pink
Jenna Hipp Damage Control- pastel pink

This is for all you lovely ladies and gents(don't forget you have breasts too!). Be healthy and well!
Especially to anyone who has been, or has loved ones affected by this disease. Much love to you. <3

Pastel Watermelon Gradient

This was my first attempt at a gradient and I love the colors I chose. I had been looking at these colors wondering what they'd look like together. I figured using a sparkly polish to experiment with gradients would be an easy way to start. The two I used are OPI Dazzle Me and Princesses Rule!.

I LOVE the way these sparkle in the sun. OPI Dazzle Me was the first "green" polish I ever bought. This is really one they should have kept around. It's a beautiful sea foam silvery green. I think the lighting it looks best in is under street lamps in the dark. I noticed that one time when I was driving at night and I looked at my hands on the steering wheel. Distracted much? I promise I didn't create any accidents!

In the shade.
