Happy Birthday Bowie! Love, Your Biggest Fan

Happy birthday to my favoritest recording artist of all time!! If you've followed Nail Polish Society for some time you may remember my two previous 'inspired by David Bowie songs manis'- my Let's Dance and Sound and Vision nails. If you're new to the blog, first of all, WELCOME! And I hope you like David Bowie manis, because this won't be my last.

For my birthday this past November I received the Bowie nail paraphernalia I'd been lusting after. I've been waiting for a special occasion to rock them. What could be more perfect than to help celebrate the British stud muffin's birthday?

31DC2014 Day 29: Swirling Vortex of Boomstick

Inspired by the Supernatural has got to be the toughest prompt of the Challenge for me. I just don't feel that inspired by it. Good thing I ended up with something awesome anyway! While brainstorming ideas, the image of an eerie, ominous, vortex came to mind. You know, the kind that you see in movies that sucks you inside and spits you out through some different portal in another time and place. Well it reminded me especially of the vortexes in the game Fistful of Boomstick, a video game based on the Evil Dead movies (more on this in a sec). Then it all came together that this swirling vortex of doom would have the perfect title of Swirling Vortex of Boomstick.

31DC2014 Day 07: Black and White and Stamped All Over

Heya everyone!
I've been practicing my stamping skills more often recently because I am determined to master it. Well all that practice must have paid off because today's mani is a stamping WIN! I am so pleased with how this turned out. This is the boost in confidence that I needed! That's right, stamping. You don't scare me anymore. Er..today.

Monochrome Sunbursts and Floral

Howdy everyone! How is life treating you this fine day? I am still trying to get over waking up from a cruel dream I had last night. I was dreaming that I was nail polish shopping, and there were rows and rows of Essie and OPI bottles on clearance. Just as I my basket was getting full of delicious goodies that I've wanted for so long, I woke up. Then came the sad moment of realization that it was all a dream. *sob*. Should I be admitting that I'm so obsessed that this is what my literal dreams are made of? Don't worry. The day I am visited by the Ghost of Nail Polish Past, Present, and Future, is the day I seek professional help.

Chaotic Chiaroscuro

When I wrote my Formula X swatches post yesterday, I looked at Chaotic and remembered how I've been meaning to wear it again. I loved how it looked on top of my gradient for my Blue Medley nails. Ever since, I've had this mani in mind, waiting for the right time to try it. In between all the soft, flowery, pastels of Spring, it's nice to have something stark and dramatic. I just love how the glitter seems to change in contrast over the black and white.

I started off with a white base, two coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I let that dry for a few minutes while I prepped my skin around the nail with Elmer's glue. When the glue was all dry I got a makeup sponge and painted it with Snow Me White and Wet N Wild Fast Dry Ebony Hates Chris. I dabbed the sponge on a few times until I achieved the effect I wanted. Then I applied a coat of Formula X Chaotic over the gradient. I finished it off with a coat of China Glaze Matte Magic. Then it was cleanup time! I removed the dry glue off my skin and used my cleanup brush and acetone to remove the remaining polish around the cuticles. I'm so glad it came out how I imagined it!

I always forget about the aftermath of a gradient mani. They take soooooo long to clean up. The polish sticks to my cuticles and doesn't want to let go. I thought this would take little time, easy peasy. It took just as much time to clean up as it did to apply it! Oh well, always worth it in the end.

What I used:
Sinful Colors Snow Me White
Wet N Wild Fast Dry Ebony Hates Chris
Formula X for Sephora Chaotic
China Glaze Matte Magic top coat

Do you like the dramatics of this mani? It's definitely one that demands everyone to "Look at me!".

31DC2013 Day 07: Black and White Nails

I got this in just under the wire! It's been a crazy busy day. Crazy busy awesomeness that is!! I spent some more time at Salt Lake Comic Con today. My sister came with me and we walked around getting our pictures taken, and also hung out at my husband's booth there. Afterwards he and I went on a date and saw James Taylor perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir! A seriously wonderful day that I will remember for a long time! Now about my nails..

Thinking about the black and white theme, I knew I wanted to do animal print. I thought about making it easy and doing polar bears with maybe just their noses showing. Heh heh. I'm sure there will be LOTS of animal prints today and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretations. I wanted to see what kind of mix I could get and I really am proud of the result!

Did you ever read the Ranger Rick magazine when you were little? I'm sure National Geographic Kids and others have this too. They would always have those macro pictures on the back cover, and it was a game to guess what they were. It wasn't my original intent, but looking at my nails now, that is all I can think of.

So can you guess what they all are? If you want to know just highlight the answers below.

Thumb- cow
Index- penguin
Middle- zebra
Ring- skunk
Pinky- leopard (the others are more realistic, I took a few liberties here.)

What I used:
OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls- white
Sephora by OPI What's a Tire Jack?- black
Sephora by OPI Hi Def- orange
Ulta Cream of the Crop- yellow

I wanted to edit the photos a little, but I don't have time!
