Tiptoe Through the Tulips With MoYou Stamping

Last week I got my MoYou London prize in the mail! I won it in a trivia contest they had on Twitter. I love trivia, so the prize was more of an afterthought. That is, until I won it. I was totally giddy about getting to choose from their Pro Collection stamping plates. I chose the XL 14 plate specifically for the tulip pattern. When I asked on my facebook page which stamp from the plate I should do first, the tulips was the first response, which is what I wanted to do anyway!

When I was young my mom would take our family to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington State. It was a two hour drive just to get there, and it seemed much longer than that. A two hour car ride to look at flowers. I didn't get it. I thought it was pretty much the most boring thing ever. Now that I'm older though, I see the appeal.

Afterward we would drive another hour to my great aunt's house. That was always fun because her yard was unique and super fun to play in. She also always had those mints that only old people eat, kept in a jar that I would stealthily sneak into. Then after dinner we would get a square of ice cream. Not a scoop, but a square. So by the end of the day I was inclined to concede that the drive was worth it.

I finally attempted the stamp decal technique with this, but it was a total fail. I stamped with the green, and while it was still on the stamper pad, I painted in the petals. I then applied top coat over the pad and waited for it to dry. When I peeled it off it was really stiff and crunchy, and wouldn't lie flat on my nail. So maybe I shouldn't have used Seche Vite? Or maybe just not let it dry for so long? Once again, I should have researched this before trying it myself. Doh.

So in the end I just stamped it the regular way. I filled in the petals using a detail nail art brush, and it turned out good enough that way.

What I Used:
OPI My Vampire is Buff- cream base
a england Saint George- green
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Snappy Sorbet- melon
MoYou London Pro Collection XL 14 plate

Do tulips have any special meaning to you? I love these colors together. It makes me think retro 50's wallpaper. What do you think?

  1. Ah, that house was sooooo cool! I didn't remember about the squares though.

And I still question whether a two hour drive is worth fields of flowers....

    1. I am imagining that the drive was a scenic one, so that might make it worth it.

    1. Thank you! Yes, she would cut it with a knife. So maybe it was actually more of a rectangle than a square.

  3. No, she cut it with a metal pancake turner.

  5. This is soooo pretty (and sort of retro)! Love! I've never had success with the stamp/ decal method either, but the way you ended up doing it looks amazing!

    1. It seemed so straightforward. I'll try again in the future and we'll see how it turns out.
